A while ago, the City of Dixon was declared a MIA/POW City in Illinois. During the Dixon City Council meeting Monday night, the city reached another milestone. The city has been designated as a Purple Heart City.
It was said this designation is not just a title but also a commitment to those who have been wounded or gave their lives in the defense of the nation.
It was also said this designation is now etched in the character and integrity of the City of Dixon.
Mayor Glen Hughes stated a Purple Heart City is given to communities that have shown significant commitment to honor and support Purple Heart recipients. It includes community efforts to remember the sacrifices of these military personnel.
Dixon is the 41st city in Illinois to receive this designation
