The Lee County Health Department have been notified that a bat from Lee County (Dixon) has tested positive for rabies.
The Health Department said they don’t share this to cause alarm but do ask that you take precautions. The presence of bats can be serious risk to pets and humans. Rabies is a virus that affects the nervous system.
The best way to prevent bats in your home is to fill cracks, chimney holes or other areas a bat may get in. Do not touch a bat with bare hands and try to confine it to one room. You should call animal control so the bat could be captured and tested.
