During the Thursday Lee County Executive Committee Meeting, the members heard about a petition to change some language concerning farm animals in R1 and R2 residential area.

Currently, agriculture is allowed in R1 and R2 residential area in Lee County without restrictions.  The wording would restrict how many animals a person could have per acre.

In the residential area, the zoning office would use a number system.  For example a horse would be one, a pig would be half a point, meaning they could have two pigs per acre and so forth.  The zoning office would have the discreation to make a decision concerning exotic animals. Concerning chickens, it is estimated a person could have six chickens per acre, no roosters are allowed.

The Zoning Board looked throughout the country at other such area.  The designation was called animal units.  The petition would be going to the Planning Commission.
