The Dixon Park District has several parks around town. All of them get plenty of use. However, if you are a parent of a special needs child, a trip to the playground can be a stressful event.
A few parents spoke with Executive Director Duane Long about getting fencing around the inclusive playground at John Dixon Park. Long told the parents that they wanted to put up a fence, however, the district did not have the $5,000 needed. Dr. Sarah Lewis of the Autism Center of Illinois said the center could donate the $5,000.
Lewis is the mother of a special needs child who has the problem of wandering. She said this fencing would help.
Another person who brought it up to Long was Courtney Vutruong. She said she was blown away at how quickly things fell into place. Not to mention having a city official listen and do something about it.
